I chose the topic of massages because when I was little, I found massage amazing and I was interested in it. When I realized that I had an opportunity to learn more about it I suggested massage as our topic to my project partner. In the future, I would like to study something related to medicine but more in the way of massages or holistic health or maybe physical therapy. I think the benefits of working with massage and healing would be very rewarding.
One of the most amazing things that I learned while preparing this presentation was that there are many different types of massage. All types of massage have similar benefits, related to relaxation and whole body health. The last thing that I found interesting is all the different techniques are applied depending on the type of injuries in the case of sports massage.
During my life, I have heard a lot of people telling me that massage is good for your health and now that I have learned more about the subject of Anatomy & Physiology, I realized that it also helps in wellness and holistic health. Massage does this by decreasing the stress related with insomnia. Another benefit is that massage relaxes the entire body and helps athletes recover from sports injuries. Massage can also help with digestive disorders and reduces anxiety. I found this very interesting.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would grade myself with an 8.5 because I worked a lot on this project and also I found good information about it. But if I would have the opportunity to repeat this project, I would add more practical information and I would make it more interactive by getting the audience to participate in more sample massages.
Becoming a massage therapist takes professional training and there are many programs in the area. The basic certificate takes 500 hours from an approved school. There is a test that massage therapists must pass called The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) and the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx). These tests are regulated by the state of California.
So in a few years if I'm still interested I would like to came back to the United States of America to study in an approved school and take this test. The more skills, degrees and certificates, the better change I have of obtaining a good job abroad my home country.
